On
Tuesday 5th May some of our committee members went to visit the
Camphill Community Centre at Buckfastleigh to present a cheque
for £400. It was wonderful to actually see what they were
making in the workshops! We saw people making wind-chimes and jewellery
out of copper, all sorts of planters and other items in the
pottery, and beautiful woven rugs, bags and waistcoats in bright
coloured wool. One lady was spinning wool on a
spinning wheel! We had tea and biscuits with some of the
'Villagers' who live and work there, and chatted to some of them.
And before leaving we were invited to see one of the houses where
the 'Villagers' are
self-sufficient, and we were able to buy some of their free
range eggs!
We
received a letter from the manager of Camphill Devon
Community. On
behalf of Camphill Devon Community, may I take this
opportunity to thank the New Century Singers for their
generous donation.
You have indicated that you wanted the donation to be
used specifically for leisure and entertainment purposes
for the 'Villagers'. To this end we are going to spend
it on a concert by a Japanese drumming group. The
remainder will be put towards Ascension Day outings and
refreshments.
Yours sincerely
John Southcombe
